I was only a little girl when Star Wars debuted and even then I knew this film and ultimately series would make history. The creative mind of George Lucas, along with his team, gave the world a whole new glimpse of special effects never seen before. I recall being fascinated with the creation of this imaginary world in outer space and also being deathly afraid of Darth Vader. Yet, like millions of others I wanted more and anxiously awaited the release of the latest film which spanned into the 1980’s.

Truthfully, as life passed on, my interest in the Skywalker Saga waned. But, I witnessed what I saw as a little girl, when the series was resuscitated at the turn of the 21st century. Millions around the globe so intrigued with this series, it is among not only most lucrative, but also the most successful franchises, in motion picture history.

But, now decades after the release of the first series, The Rise of Skywalker, brings the series to a close.

My intern and media correspondent Krysta Escobar was among the first to see the latest in the Star Wars series.

Here is her review:

The Rise of Skywalker is now the end of the saga. Millions of people have grown up watching this nine movie franchise that has spanned over the past 40 years. Unfortunately, even the best things, must come to an end.

Star Wars fans, are familiar with the characters and with the saga ending, Rey, Poe, and Finn continue their journey together. The Resistance has to go up against the First Order. There are twists and turns at every point. The Resistance works together as a tight team to fight their battles.

I felt with the amount of time that Rey and Finn spent together, their relationship could have flourished a bit more. The audience could easily see how much Finn cared for her and I think would have liked to see more interaction. That being said, every character was important and served a purpose throughout TROS. It made everyone feel special and cared for and that resonated with me. I think that is what should happen especially in today’s society.

There was also an appearance by Princess Leia, played by carrie Fisher, that was wonderful and especially great for older Star Wars fans who have been watching for years. It was the second posthumous film performance by Fisher, who died in 2016. Producers used unused footage from The Force Awakens.

Here is a very interesting article on Princess Leia’s return:

My favorite actors in the film were Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley. Driver had a very serious and convincing tone, while Ridley was more focused and comedic. Full cast: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527338/fullcredits

While I really liked the movie, I felt the ending was pretty rushed. However, there were a few good twists and turns that the audience would not expect. So, all in all, the end of the saga turned out pretty well.  We may have missed out on a few things, but it was great to see all the characters. I would recommend seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters if you are a Star Wars fan. I would give this movie 4/5 stars.

Final thoughts by Sarina Fazan

I really would like to go back and see the original movies with my daughter who is now 12. I was around her age when the series first debuted. I would be interested to see her reaction on what were the most sophisticated special effects during that time.

And, there is a bonus. If Sammie is a Star Wars fan, she won’t have to wait decades to watch this amazing story evolve.

From ice cream to the movies, my daughter Sammie is my favorite person -ever
