Ep 43: Spreading Kindness With A Smile

Marc Marino, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, is the first sponsor for the “Let’s Spread Kindness” initiative! He joins Sarina Fazan on this podcast to discuss why community involvement is so important to him and how he’s committed to spreading kindness every day.

The “Let’s Spread Kindness” initiative began just after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams at Sky Strategic Marketing and Sarina Fazan Media joined together in this effort to spread kindness all over the Tampa Bay area. As the initiative’s first official sponsor, Marc is making it possible to help even more people in need.

“It’s worth it,” Marc says. “The goal of what you want to do is awesome. Helping the community, being there for other people, you can’t beat that.”

Marc, his wife Maggie, and son Leo moved to South Tampa two years ago from New York City. They instantly fell in love with their new neighbors and the strong sense of community pride in the area. But Marc also saw a need for a safer place for neighborhood kids to play.

“Instantly, I saw the community wanted it. We knew they needed it. There were just kids everywhere,” Marc explains. “I really want to see this done.”

Along with a committee of fellow advocates, he is working on the effort to upgrade the greenspace at West Watrous Avenue and South Clark Avenue, known as “The Park on Clark.” You can learn more at www.Facebook.com/theparkonclark.

In addition, Marc creates community benches and installs Little Free Library boxes in Tampa neighborhoods to give back. Check to see if there’s a Little Free Library box near you: www.LittleFreeLibrary.org/ourmap

But why does Marc feel that spreading kindness is so important? He says, “It’s like a smile, right? See, you do it and I want to smile. So, when you smile, it creates another one. Hopefully, when you do something nice, it creates another person to do something equally as nice. That’s the whole goal; to create a better place where we live.”

Marc also serves as a Board Member for two local nonprofits: the Culbreath Heights Civic Association and Tampa Bay Little League organization.

As a financial advisor, Marc says that people can give back without spending any money. Simply by sharing information about a cause, you can make a big difference! If you do plan to contribute to a cause, Marc encourages you to ask questions about how the donations will be utilized.
