Free Training Opportunity for Tampa Bay Entrepreneurs and Nonprofit Leaders

Tampa, FL (January 18, 2021) – The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in the Florida State University College of Business is offering free business training to Tampa Bay entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders through Small Business Executive Program (SBEP) and Nonprofit Executive Program (NPEP). The deadline for applications is Sunday, January 24, 2021, and the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship is encouraging all local leaders to apply!

The programs are designed for CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, presidents, and executive directors of small businesses and nonprofit organizations. Graduates emerge with the skills and training to elevate their businesses, turning challenges into strategic advantages.

Lennise Germany, CEO of  LivyO’s Catering, is one of those graduates. She left the security of a corporate job seven years ago, but now Germany is cooking up a storm and truly living her dream. In fact, LivyO’s is one of the official caterers for the Super Bowl! She credits the Small Business Executive Program for her success.

“It elevated my mind in a way that forced my actions,” said Germany.

The Jim Moran Foundation makes the SBEP and NPEP possible, as part of the lasting legacy of automotive pioneer and philanthropist Jim Moran.

Shane Smith, the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship’s director of Central Florida Operations, said, “Mr. Moran was born an entrepreneur, really rough beginnings up in Chicago, but even as a young boy, he was entrepreneurial in his ways.”

The Jim Moran Foundation was founded in 2001, with a mission of supporting “innovative programs and opportunities that meet the ever-changing needs of the community,” such as the SBEP and NPEP.

“The foundation had gifted us a large sum of money if you will. That allows us to provide this for entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders at no cost to them,” said Smith.

The SBEP consists of eight sessions, each focusing on a particular aspect of growing a small business, and spans about four months. Participants also have access to speakers and business experts.

“The aim of the program is in a way is a mini-MBA, you've done your undergraduate to learn how to start your business. Now you're going back to school to grow your business,” explained Smith.

The NPEP program consists of four sessions, each focusing on how to navigate a nonprofit organization through the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

The selection committee will choose 25 business owners and 25 nonprofit leaders through an application process. To be will be selected, your business must be in operation for three to five years and have five or more employees, including volunteers.

Smith believes that time commitment is worth it. “As the cliché goes, they're too busy working in their business when they really should be working on their business for them to be able to grow any further,” he said.

Germany couldn’t agree more. The CEO of LivyO’s believes in the program so much, she had her husband Omar take the courses as well! Omar Germany is now the CFO of their catering business.

“I would definitely encourage anybody to take the program. We definitely learned from it and it actually did grow our business. So, we're advocates for it,” said Omar Germany.

“You can't afford to not do it is what I say,” said Lennise Germany.
