Discussing the case with prominent Bay area attorney Luke Lirot
Jury selection began this week in the highly anticipated Michael Drejka trial. The trial begins exactly one year and one month after an altercation in a Clearwater parking lot that captured the attention of the nation.
48 year old Drejka is facing manslaughter charges after pulling a gun and killing Markeis McGlockton, 28.

It puts Florida Stand Your Ground Defense in the center of a national debate. Even though Drejka’s attorney’s insist this is not about race, the case also heightened racial relations in the country.
I asked prominent Bay area attorney Luke Lirot to weigh in on the case. Lirot is known nationally as a first amendment attorney. But freedom of speech is not his only area of expertise.
He has made a name for himself after getting involved with all aspects of civil rights cases.
That is among the reasons I asked him to weigh in on this case. I have interviewed Mr. Lirot many times. He is also very familiar with Pinellas county and the judge overseeing the Drejka trial.
