TV REVIEW: “Dead to Me”

I would definitely suggest watching, especially if you are a Christina Applegate fan

“Dead to Me” stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini

I love television. In fact, you will learn in an upcoming “Indian Trailblazer” blog on how television played an integral part in my young life and really helped shape my future.

So, I thought, why not start writing reviews on some of my current favorites. Ive already done a few and my readers have asked me to write more. So, here we go!

If you need a new show to watch, Netflix’s original series “Dead to Me” might be just the ticket.

My sister-in-law, Rubab, who I fondly call Ruby, suggested I start watching the series to help ease some of the current stress and sadness in our lives. If you are reading my earlier blogs you know that our family is suffering a tremendous loss with the passing of my beloved-brother-in-law, Dr. Hasan Khan.

Ruby said the series was only seven episodes and the episodes were only half an hour. I am so happy she urged me to watch the show!

Dead to Me stars Christina Applegate who I adore. The actress reminds me of my very best friend Susie and that in itself puts a smile on my face.

Back to the show, Applegate plays an easily provoked widow determined to find the hit and run driver who killed her husband. She befriends a rather odd woman at a grief group played by Linda Cardellini.

The two women not only strike a friendship but viewers witness how the two become dependent on each other. They also learn early on the secret that could tear the two women apart.

The series is a somewhat dark drama comedy. I think it is a perfect one to watch with girlfriends or binge watch when you are having one of those days.

And, pretty cool. It reunites Applegate with her former co-star, Will Ferrell who is an executive producer in this current series. Applegate and Ferrell starred in AnchorMan: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. And, yes, as an anchor and a journalist, I found that movie hilarious! It was not quite accurate. But, it kept me laughing.

In fact, in Dead to Me there is a reference to the comedy film. Let me know if you catch it. I also love hearing from my viewers and readers. Please let me know if you like the series.

I can tell you this. It’s already got the thumbs up from Netflix after it’s spring debut. The series has been renewed for a second season that should air in 2020.

Following my style of reviews. Not to give too much away, a second series is brilliant because there are many avenues to explore.

In the first season, you learn much about Applegate’s character, but not Cardellini’s and there is a lot to learn including basic details about her past.
