Wife, Mother, Murderer: The Unforgettable Interview

Sitting in prison with Julie Schenecker, a mother who killed her own children

I am the mother of a beautiful 11 year old daughter. When Tampa mother Julie Schenecker killed her two kids, execution style, my little Sammie was eight.

As a mother and as a journalist, I had to get answers. Why, would the person charged with protecting their kids commit such a heinous act. Was she evil? Or was she sick.

I still do not know the answer. I do know I have lost sleep since the first day I walked into prison and met the former Russian linguist face to face.

It took me four years to get this sit down. Researchers told me it is the “only” interview in the nation conducted by a reporter with a mother who killed her children. The other sound clips have come from the courtroom during trials.

Let me know what you think. She is in prison for life, but does she belong in a mental institution or death row?
