EP 72: Saving Our Shores – The Pine Key Island Project

Known as Beer Can Island, Pine Key Island in Tampa Bay received its nickname for garbage laden landscape it once had. But a group of friends purchased the island in 2017, setting out to reclaim and restore it. Since then, they have removed several tons of garbage and beautified the landscape, making it a popular meeting place for local boaters. A place so loved that acclaimed singer Matt Billor even wrote a song about it, which he will be performing live on the podcast! But the island is now facing a challenge from Mother Nature – erosion. Cole Weaver, one of Pine Key Island's owners, joins Matt “On The Record With Sarina Fazan” at Red House Streaming studios to talk about the effort to protect and expand the island’s beaches – and how you can help save our shores!
