EP 135 On the Record: Crohn's Disease and USF Health with Michelle Turman and Dr. Mark Moseley

More than half a million Americans live with Crohn’s disease, yet few people are aware of the challenges that comes with living with this disease. On this episode of On the Record, Sarina Fazan is joined by Michelle Turman and Dr. Mark Moseley. Michelle Turman, MA, CFRE is the Founder & CEO of Catalyst Consulting Services whose mission is to facilitate positive change in the areas of executive searches, organizational management, and fundraising.  With over twenty-eight years of nonprofit experience, Michelle established Catalyst Consulting Services and has been responsible for increasing the impact and best practices of nonprofit organizations she serves and has raised over $87 million for the Tampa Bay community through her professional and personal philanthropic efforts.

In addition to facilitating change nationally and in the Tampa Bay area, Michelle’s community service has included leadership roles on the boards of the Arts Council and the Cultural Arts Commission of Hillsborough County, Suncoast Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Charitable Gift Planners of Tampa Bay, Donate Life America, Leadership Pinellas, the South Tampa Y and University of South Florida’s Women in Leadership & Philanthropy (Mentoring Chair and Scholarship Committee) and the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Arts & Sciences, and the Working Women of Tampa Bay Foundation. Turman has established two $25,000.00 endowments at the University of South Florida, one for the Turman Study Abroad Scholarship to encourage field studies in Italy and Greece and one as the first female donor for the new IBD Center set to open in 2022 for research and the Nurse’s station.

Turman is author of the best-selling book, Jumping the Queue – Achieving Great Things Before You Are Ready which focuses on how young professionals can seize personal and professional opportunities, achieve great things, and get what they want and deserve.  Turman is an educational trainer for the Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay and at the Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership at Rollins College. She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and specializes in professional education in the areas of  executive search, change management, capital campaigns, volunteer management, board governance, and fund development.

Turman has been featured in American Express: Open Forum, Arizona Business Magazine, Inc.com, Inside Business, New York Daily News, Investor’s Business Daily, Nerdy Girls Express, Young Upstarts, and Rural Messenger as an expert and author for her focus on change management in the workforce. Turman has been recognized by Tampa Bay Metro Magazine as one of Tampa Bay’s Distinguished Women in Business and the Face of Nonprofit Change in 2015 and 2016, nominated by Tampa Bay Business Journal as Business Woman of the Year in 2007, 2016 and 2017 and was recognized by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce as The Outstanding Small Business Leader of the Year in 2018.

Mark G. Moseley, MD, MHA, FACEP joined USF Health in January 2017 and is now the President of USF Tampa General Physicians. In this role Dr. Moseley oversees the clinical operations of the faculty practice as well as other areas, including Quality, Safety, Risk, Patient Experience and building strategic hospital partnerships.  Dr. Moseley is also Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Emergency Medicine and sees patients clinically in the Tampa General Hospital Emergency Department.  Dr. Moseley also holds a courtesy appointment as Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management within the USF College of Public Health.  In December 2017, Dr. Moseley was promoted to Chief Clinical Officer for USF Health to oversee day-to-day operations of the USF Health faculty practice plan and all clinical care that takes place at USF Health.   

Dr. Moseley is an Ohio native and alumni of the Ohio State University College of Medicine and College of Public Health. He is the first graduate of OSU’s combined five-year MD, Master of Health Administration dual degree program.  He completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Del., serving as chief resident in his final year of training. Dr. Moseley came to USF from the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where he served in numerous leadership capacities for 12 years.  Dr. Moseley was a core academic faculty member, Medical Director of the Emergency Department, and Vice Chairman for Clinical Affairs in OSU’s large academic department of Emergency Medicine.  His senior leadership roles at OSU were as Assistant Chief Operating Officer, Medical Director for Patient Flow Management, and Medical Director for Utilization Management; all for the entire 1,100 bed, 5 hospital health system.  

In 2013 he was awarded the OSU College of Medicine Innovation Award for conceiving, designing and implementing the After Hours Clinics; two urgent care sites that see thousands of patients annually in primary care clinics after hours seven days/week.  He is a perennial Top Doctor award recipient in Emergency Medicine since 2011 and was voted by Columbus Business as a city-wide 40 under 40 awardee in 2010.
